INTRODUCTION

This blog will give an overview of a medical machine used to display medical conditions and activities within one's organs, bones and inner tissues. Important information such as cancers, infections, and bleeding will be displayed accurately as possible by a MRI Scan.

WHAT IS A MRI SCAN?

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The MRI scan is a great creation that helps examine the inner conditions of humans. Using radio waves and magnetism, images of human body structure is shown on a computer. The resulting image is a very detailed and accurate image.

WHAT IS THE USE OF MRI SCANS?

There are several purposes to each and every man-made creation in the world. This is because the inventions are based upon our needs. The main reason for the invention of the MRI Scan is because it produces accurate images of one’s inner organs and bones. Using these accurate images one can tell exactly what is wrong with their body. This helps doctors to bring the best results for their patients. With the MRI Scan, one can accurately identify and make irregular activities visible on the computer screen for doctors to analyse. This can include things such as detecting diseases throughout the body or even internal bleeding or swelling. Some of the key images are:
  • Bones and joints
  • Brain and spinal cords
  • Heart and blood vessels
  • Breasts
  • Lungs and liver

    HOW A MRI WORKS

There are multiple procedures and steps taken prior to taking the scan. Some of the majour steps are:
    1. Patients may be asked to not eat 1 hours before the scan
    2. Patient will be checked up by doctors
    3. The patient is given an injection called contrast medium which helps make the scan of organs and bones clearer
    4. The patient lays back on a large magnet
    5. As the large magnet moves the patient back the patient sends their own radio waves
    6. These signals are then picked up on the computer and turns into a picture. The picture is determined by the strength and location from the signals.
The scan takes around half an hour to one hour long and sometimes longer if the patient moves during the scan.

    FREQUENT USES

Most of the time, MRI scans are used to identify any major injuries in bones and organs. With the heavy detail displayed by the MRI scan, it is very easily to determine exactly what is wrong with the patient. Some of the common uses are for brain, scull, spine, hip joints, and more. With this technology, 86% of all MRI patients have gotten incredible results and have benefited from the use.
