- Patients may be asked to not eat 1 hours before the scan
- Patient will be checked up by doctors
- The patient is given an injection called contrast medium which helps make the scan of organs and bones clearer
- The patient lays back on a large magnet
- As the large magnet moves the patient back the patient sends their own radio waves
- These signals are then picked up on the computer and turns into a picture. The picture is determined by the strength and location from the signals.
The scan takes around half an hour to one hour long and sometimes longer if the patient moves during the scan.
